On location with photographer Todd R. Darling as he creates a portrait of the city of Paterson and its people, inspired by the poet William Carlos Williams. Paterson was the first planned industrial city in America, founded by Alexander Hamilton. Like many older cities, it faces challenges including an opioid epidemic and systemic poverty. Todd is also working on a project called “The Grassroots of Hip Hop” featuring young musicians in the city. He splits his time between America, where he grew up in a suburb of Paterson, and Hong Kong, where his wife and children live. Todd received the British Journal of Photography 2017 Breakthrough Award.
